Welcome to the Rotary Club of Perth - Scotland

Dear Member or Visitor...

Welcome to the Rotary Club of Perth Scotland Web Site, whether a first time visitor or a regular. The site is published to keep our members and friends up to date with what is happening and to offer a flavour of what we are all about, our activities, our charitable involvements both locally and internationally and our community service projects.

We are now into the final quarter of the Rotary Year and have distributed the previously reported £10,000 to Chas Rachel House and £15,000 to Cornhill Macmillan Centre and it is time to report on what we did with the balance of the funds so generously donated by bidders in Perth’s Silent Auction. The answer is that the balance was put with other funds raised at our annual fayre, donations received from Rotarians and others, collections at Dobbies and Tesco and distributed to a wide variety of charities and good causes.

Our Club has raised in excess of £48,000 so far this Rotary Year and taking into account balances carried forward has distributed almost £53,000. We retain a small balance in order to assist meetingany sudden emergency,be it local or international.

Seventy five percent of our distribution has gone to local charities and good causes, two percent to national charities and twenty three percent to international charities. In some cases the local charities have been branches of national charities such as Macmillan and Chas. A full list of charities and good causes supported will appear elsewhere on our web site at the end of the Rotary Year.

None of the foregoing could have been achieved without the support of the local business community and public without whom we would have achieved very little, our grateful thanks goes to one and all as ever. We are not by any means resting on our laurels and will continue with our fund raising activities starting with our charity golf day at King James VI on the 2nd May 2012. Entry is £220 for a team of four to include bacon rolls and tea/coffee before tee off and a two course lunch on completion of the round. It is always a good day of fun and fellowship as well as the more serious business of golf, so if you fancy a day out with good company, great surroundings and a chance to help others more disadvantaged than yourself (and I don’t mean the President’s golf team) why not enter a team?

If you think you might be interested in helping at a more hands on level and would be interested in joining us as a member of Rotary please get in touch with me at ben.j.gunn@btinternet.comand I will put the wheels in motion.

Please be assured that we extend a very warm Scottish welcome to our website, and further extend that welcome to all Rotarians worldwide, who would care to visit us in Perth, we look forward to seeing you!

John (Ben) Gunn

President 2011 - 2012

Modern Perth
Perth is a city rich in history but alive with a new energy. Perth Concert Hallis at the cultural heart of the city centre, providing a creative space where you will be inspired to take time out to do business, network, innovate and share ideas.

It is a stunning, modern facility, designed by award winning architects and fully equipped with leading edge technology. The state of the art auditorium has seating for 1200, and can offer a range of contemporary, flexible spaces with capacities ranging from 16 to 100 for conferences, business meetings, exhibitions, events, and has been the venue for our annual Rotary Fayre.

Ancient Perth

Scone Palace is a place that breathes history like nowhere else in Scotland. Today, in the 21st century, it is home to the Earl of Mansfield, and a major attraction to visitors from all over the world. Fifteen hundred years ago, it was the capital of the Pictish kingdom and the centre of the ancient Celtic church.

In the intervening centuries, it has been the seat of parliaments and the crowning palace of Kings. It is the rightful home of the Stone of Destiny, on which all Scottish and British Kings and Queens have been crowned, immortalised in Shakespeare's Macbeth.
